So here's how it went down in 30 words or less.
*Jack is playing hide and seek with my mom at their house.
*Jack is running.
*Jack fell down. (And we THOUGHT he may have broken his crown.)
Jack is clumsy like me. He doesn't just stumble - no siree - when he goes down he goes all out. He fell foreward from a straight up running position and landed directly on his forehead. Who does that? Falls and lands ON their forehead? Jack does I guess. Anyway - no cut - no bump even - but he hit HARD and when he hit my mom heard an odd cracking noise. Not from the floor - but from his head.
*Mom calls me. Tells me what happened.
*I ask her to call our pediatrician and tell the advice nurse exactly what she told me. Then ask for advice.
*Advice nurse says that since she heard that cracking noise and since he hit pretty hard it would be best to go get checked out.
*We go to the ER. Waiting room is empty. YEY!
*We only wait for about 15 minutes. YEY!
*During that 15 minutes Jack gets to play a video game in the pediatric waiting area. YEY!
*We get called back and put in a room with a bed. The doc will see you shortly, they say!
*They lied.
*Roughly an hour and 45 minutes later the doc enters our room. Gives Jack all kinds of motor skills tests. Looks in his eyes - ears - mouth - etc, and pronounces him in good working order. YEY!
However, I pretty much knew that all was well in that regard. I wasn't as concerned about any possible brain damage as I could tell by his actions that everything was in normal working order. No problems sleeping. No vomiting. No changes in behavior. Etc. Etc. I was more concerned about possible damage to his skull. The doc said the front of the forehead is so strong that you'd pretty much have to take a pick-axe to it in order to break it. Interesting. Altho I don't think I'll be testing that one out any time soon :)
The only other thing that worried me is that Jack has this soft/spongey spot in the middle of his forehead now right where he fell. Not a bump - not a bruise - it never swelled. It's just soft and feels like a sponge. The doctor told me it was "muscle". Or maybe I heard that wrong because, really? You have muscle in your forehead? I did not know.
Jack was a TROOPER thru the entire ordeal. He seriously had a blast. He let the doctor and the nurses poke him - look in his eyes/ears/nose - he was never scared and didn't cry once while we were there. And he chatted up every nurse who stopped by our room to see how we were doing.
Here is our happy little patient.

He was SO cute in that tiny little gown.
PS: I know that was no where near 30 words or less.
