Yesterday was Jack's first official real school field trip! They went to an area pumpkin farm and I was lucky enough to be able to attend as a chaperone. I was also lucky enough to have been denied a seat on the bus due to lack of space available. Therefore I got to spend the hour long drive to said pumpking patch carpooling in a nice comfy mini-van sipping coffee with 2 other neighborhood moms. Beats being on a bumpy, uncomfortable school bus for the hour long drive with 40-some screaming five year olds, two of whom got sick on the ride there. Ain't no one gettin' sick in the mini-van! There were lots of laughs, stories, colorful language, but no getting sick. Note to readers: the majority of suburban moms have a mouth on them the likes of a man who was previously a sailor and recently embarked on a new career in big rig trucking. This is a fact.
So when we got there we learned some fun facts about pumpkins and apples (Don't quiz me. I remember none of them.)and then it was time for the tractor ride to the pumpkin patch:

The tractor drops us off in the middle of the patch where we are all free to search for a pumpkin to call our own. Jack searched...

And searched ...

(And searched and searched and searched and searched.)
And found!

Jack and friends with their finds on their heads ...

Note: Jack is holding his pumpkin on his head. It's just so tiny you can't see it.
And because you know how I love the outtakes ...

The tractors then took us back to the main part of the farm where it was determined that Jack had indeed picked the smallest pumpkin ever known to man.

After that it was time for a bathroom break (bathroom breaks with 40some kindergarteners = NIGHTMARE). Jack made a new friend outside of the facilities.

A close up of Jack's friend.

There was a picnic lunch ..

A great big jumpy thing (I totally want one one in my backyard)...

A petting zoo ...

And then the teachers announced it was time to leave. About ten kids started crying (Jack included) and one threw up (not Jack) and with that the two other neighborhood moms and I boarded our minivan for the trip home happier then EVER that there was no space for us on the bus.
